When I first moved away from home I spent my first year and a half living in Hendersonville with Michael and then a month ago is when we moved to what is slowly becoming one of my favorite cities, Asheville. Today, I thought I would do a post on some of my favorite places/things in Asheville so far.
1. Pack's Tavern: This restaurant is SO good and the atmosphere is awesome. It's one of the few places I don't mind going to when there is 45 minute wait on a Saturday night. One weekends they usually have a DJ or band playing in one section and the latest sporting events up on the flat screens. Their drinks and food are always delicious and they have the BEST fried pickles I have ever had.
2, The Orange Peel: This is the place to go for small concerts in Asheville. Located right downtown it's the perfect venue to go see bands and not be there with thousands of other people and have to watch the performer on a jumbo screen. The artist that play here aren't your typical "big" musicians but artist who can keep a smaller crowd going. We've been to see Slightly Stoopid as well as Passion Pit and both were great show.
3. The Breweries: They don't call Asheville "Beer City USA" for nothing. A few of my favorites are, The Wedge, Wicked Weed, Asheville Brewing Company, Lexington Avenue Brewery and Highlands. Asheville has 18 craft breweries so clearly I have many more to try but all the ones I've been to are really fun places to just go and hang out with friends, play corn hole and try the latest brew.
4. The Blue Ridge Parkway: Michael and I live less than 5 minutes from the parkway and we love going hiking or just driving it. Pax loves when we take her there for hikes and usually just runs ahead of us along the trails. We've also done a few picnics/day trips and gone up to Mount Mitchell and some other fun areas along the parkway.
5. Downtown: I LOVE downtown! Downtown Asheville is full of quirky shops, yummy restaurants and plenty to do. There are coffee shops, bakeries, clothing stores...everything you need to just spend a day out of the house. Even if you're just out walking around and window browsing you won't get bored. And it's interesting to people watch in downtown...believe me.
Clearly Asheville is full of countless things to do. Whether you're kayaking the french broad in West Asheville, eating good southern cooking at Tupelo Honey downtown or enjoying a cup of coffee at a local shop, you'll always find something new to do.
